The Verizon 200 at the Brickyard, the 22nd round of the NASCAR Cup Series competition, will take place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With only 5 rounds of racing remaining in the regular season, it’s a make-or-break situation for the drivers in the quest for the playoff or the regular season title. The 2.49-mile road circuit will see racers going all out for the remaining playoff positions.

Going into the race the NASCAR fans, as well as the drivers, will surlily miss veteran Kurt Busch, the most senior driver driving full time this season in the cup series, as the veteran was substituted by Ty Gibbs, who replaced him last Sunday at Pocono, to drive the No:45 Toyota Camry of 23X1 Racing following the concussion symptoms he had after his crash in the Pocono race qualifiers.

If the older Busch is side-lined for a few more weeks, he might find himself out of the playoff as the NASCAR waiver given to them due to concussion of his playoff spot become worthless if more than two drivers secure a win in the coming five cup races. Chase Briscoe, the No:14 Mustang driver of Stewart Hass Racing who will drive in his hometown at Indy has come forth sharing the same concern over Busch’s playoff spot.

Chase Briscoe, who secured his first and only win of the season at Phoenix to secure his playoff spot, has acknowledged that it is unfortunate that having Busch side-lined increases his chances of cementing his playoff spot a situation he doesn’t want to be in as the No:45 driver has run better than him this season and deserves the spot. He pointed out that though he wants to survive the coming weekdays easily he wishes Kurt Busch gets back on track as he is being missed.

Unfortunately, because of Kurt, it definitely makes it a little bit better for us. I don’t want to be in that situation, because Kurt has run better than us. He deserves it if it comes down to it to be in, but I think, for us, it’s getting a little easier if we can get through these next couple of weeks… I just hope Kurt gets back to the race track Obviously, we miss him,” says Chase Briscoe.

Chase Briscoe went on talk about his playoff positioning pointing out that the drivers such as the likes of his teammate Aric Almirola and Kevin Harvick along with the likes of Martin Truex Jr. of JGR and Ryan Blaney of Team Penske have the points enough to upset his playoff chance with a win as all the other drivers are far below him in terms of points secured.

There’s just a lot of unknowns and there are really only four guys that winning would hurt us. Everybody else is so far below us in points, that we’d probably be OK, but two of them are my teammates (Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola) and then (Ryan) Blaney and (Martin) Truex (Jr.). If those four guys win, that’s where we get in trouble,” Chase Briscoe said.

Chase Briscoe went on to say that he just needs to survive the next three weeks without any new race winners to feel a lot better about his playoff standing as it will produce fewer stress levels for him. He added that if any of the drivers won in Indy, he will be in a hell of a lot of trouble going forward which can be resolved by securing a win this weekend or soon.

I just need to get through the next three weeks without a new winner and then I’ll feel a lot better about it. The stress level is still there, for sure, but it’s not as bad now. If one of those guys wins this weekend, it’ll be a lot worse, but so far, I feel good about it and, truthfully, if we win this weekend, it doesn’t matter so that’s what we’re gonna try to do,” Chase Briscoe added.
