Former NASCAR driver Keeny Wallace puts the blame on the skiing accident for Chase Elliott’s playoff miss. The 2020 Cup champion missed out on the playoff for the first time in his Cup career after failing to secure a win the whole season. His best shot at a win came in the final two road course races of the season, but he was unable to secure the win.

Elliott suffered a tibia injury before the third Cup race of the season following a snowboarding accident. He was forced to sit out six races to recover and make a comeback. The Chevy driver was forced to sit out one more race soon after the comeback following an incident with Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamin.

Former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace, via his YouTube channel, pointed out that Elliott did everything in his power to make it to the playoffs, and his driving has nothing to do with the early elimination. He said that the accident and six-race miss messed up his mojo, and it cost him a spot in the playoffs.

So, what do I think about Chase Elliott missing the playoffs? It has nothing to do with about the way he ran because when you missed seven races, I don’t care if you’re 26 years old; it messes your mojo up… What do you think about the race car drivers? They miss nine weeks, that’s three months almost…I’m gonna blame it all on the skiing accident,” Wallace said.

Chase Elliott is the most popular driver on the grid and has won the last five awards for the most famous driver. So, the veteran driver deems the miss as a big blow for the sport since he attracts a lot of eyes to the sport. He added that Elliott can still win races, with ten playoff events left this year.

Wallace called the playoff miss a “big blow to the sport” and added, “But Chase can still win some races and help promote the sport right now. He’s got great sponsors. He’s still got to go out and win. We’ve got a lot of racing left to do.”

He added that Elliott and his teammate Bowman won’t be doing the stuff that got them injured anytime soon. Wallace said, “I think everybody’s gonna learn from that. I don’t think Alex Bowman would be jumping in Sprint Cars anymore.  Let me know when Chase Elliott goes snowboarding again.”
