NASCAR rejects Chase Elliot’s plea to remove the penalty

The esses section at COTA is one of the toughest and most technical sections of the track. The part of the track is something a lot of drivers have trouble in maneuvering properly, especially with the strict track limits that are enforced during the NASCAR Cup Series race there.

Chase Elliot was one of the victims of the strict track limits as the driver got loose while navigating it, and had to correct his car. The correction caused him to go over the track limits, leading him to earn a pass-through penalty. The driver pleaded and reported instantly to his crew chief Alan Gustafson about how he got loose.

NASCAR rejected the plea of the Chevy racer and granted him with two back-to-back penalties in laps 39 and 40. This led to Elliot missing out on his first top 5 of the season, making him fall back to P16 and essentially ending his race.
