Kevin Harvick calls for “no stage breaks” in the upcoming Road America Cup race as he hopes to secure his first win of the season

NASCAR cup series will hit the 4-mile Road America Road course this weekend for the 18^th round of cup racing, the Kwik Trip 250 presented by JOCKEY Made in America. With the Playoff spots and wins high in demand, and the number of races left in the season limited fans will be expecting a tight competition at the track for the front raw finishes.  

The Stewart Hass Racing though has been the traditional front runners of NASCAR has struggled since the last season to take off and get to their old form. Though Chase Briscoe secured them their first win earlier this season they are yet to get the second one as none of the others drivers of the team has come close to a win this season so far.

Among the SHR line up the 2014 Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick has been among the most struggling drivers with the new car.  He is yet to secure a win this season after going winless the whole season of 2021. It’s been a staggering drop in level performance from the veteran considering the fact that he secured 9 race wins in the 2020 season. Now the veteran has come forth to discuss the upcoming Road America race as he expects to secure a playoff spot soon.

Talking about the race Kevin Harvick acknowledged that he had a lot of fun last time at this track alluding to the fans who gathered to see the race. He pointed out the fans had taken the event to their heart as they were hiding between the trees, campers, and all over the place with a fun atmosphere surrounding them.

“Being in that part of the country and seeing the way that the Cup Series was taken to by the fans, and seeing all the fans I mean, they were hiding between the trees, campers, all over the place. It was definitely a lot of fun to see all the people, and just a neat place to be during that time of the year,” Kevin Harvick said.

Talking about the hardship in navigating the 4.048 miles of the track Harvick acreage that though he hasn’t spent much time at the track last time around he did have an understanding of the heavy break zones of the track. He pointed out that for him being able to outbreak someone in those zones will be the major passing strategy at the track.

“I haven’t spent a lot of time at Road America, but the thing I did take away from last year is there are a lot of heavy braking zones. So, I think that’s still going to be the ticket to passing making the time into the heavy braking zones, and being able to out-brake somebody,” Kevin Harvick added.

Kevin Harvick went on to talk about his opinions on the stage breaks at the race as he calls for the removal of such a system suggesting rolling laps instead. He added that when it rolling laps NASCAR can award points to the driver as the lap ends. He went on to say that the stage breaks and extra cautions, especially in tracks such as Road America, take some things away from the race.

“In my opinion, there should be no stage breaks. I think the stages should be rolling laps and when the stage ends, the stage ends, and you score points on that lap. But I think that the stages, and all the extra cautions, especially at a place like Road America, they just take away from the race,” says Kevin Harvick.
