Stewart Hass Racing vetran Kevin Harvick has confirmed that he raced in the first few races of the 2023 season with a busted rib. This is the final seaosn in the premier stock car racing division for the 2014 Cup series champion, as he has already announced his retirement. He will be replaced by Josh Berry in the No:4 Ford in 2024.
While talking to the media in Indy, Harvick, who is yet to secure a win in the 2023 season, said that his team has played a significant role in helping him race with an injury and overcome the deficit. He then said that he busted his ribs after falling down the stars in Italy in June, during the Fathers’ Daybreak of the series.
“It’s been an interesting year regarding how things have worked out. I feel like we’ve performed OK with what we have. The guys have done a good job in making something out of it, put ourselves in a position to have a chance to win a couple of races. Had some bad ones and some good ones, kind of fought … and scraped and worked through an injury after the break,” Harvick told the Media at Indy (H&T Pro Talk).
When further asked about what happened after the injury matter slipped off his mouth, the former Xfinity Series champion said, “I fell down a flight of steps in Italy and had a stack of busted ribs for several weeks.” It indicates that the champion driver overcame pain to earn maximum points for the team and secure the playoffs.

The injury perfectly aligns with Kevin Harvick’s three back-to-back finishes outside the top 20
The KHI owner visited Italy with his son Keelan Harvick and his father. The purpose of the European journey was for his son to race in international Karting events and gain valuable experience. During the trip, an unfortunate accident occurred.
The first race after the break was the Nashville Cup event. The No:4 team scored just a 24 finish there ahead of the inaugural Chicago Street Race. His previous Street Racing experience didn’t wasn’t enough for him at the 12-turned track, as his day ended in a P29.
He had a promised day in Atlanta next week, but it ended in a P36 finish. Harvick hasn’t finished outside the top 10 in New Hampshire, where he ended the day at P4. He scored another P4 at Pocono, a P10 at Richmond, and a P8 last week at Michigan
For Harvick, who has enough points to make it the last 16 on points, the season so far has been a bug grind as it always has been for his team. He said, “We just have fought one battle after another. It’s been typical (No.) 4 car stuff that we’ve worked through. Just keep grinding away for 13 more (races).”
