The Next-Gen era hasn’t been kind to two times NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch. In the first year with 7th Gen car, which was also his last season with JGR, Busch was able to secure just one win that too a lucky with at Bristol dirt race only to exit early in the playoffs. He had similar experience on debut season with RCR where he scored three wins at the start of the season only to massively underperform in the playoffs.
One track where he has struggled big time with the current generation of cars in Bristol. Other than in the two dirt races he hasn’t been able to be a challenger. According 2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick, the No:8 Chevy driver is aggravated with his performance at Bristol, as last weekend at BMS was also no different for him.
He is aggravated…Agitated, aggravated — whatever word you wanna use. He is definitely frustrated. Last week at Phoenix, they had a super tough weekend... Kyle’s had a tough time and really in the Next Gen car at Bristol, [it] hasn’t been the same for him as it was in the previous generation of car. He’s an eight-time winner at Bristol but it’s just not been as good for him in the Next Gen car.Harvick said via Happy Hours podcast.
Kyle Busch is one of the best drivers ever at Bristol since the track was built in 1961. He has secured eight wins in the 0.533 miles concrete surface. He is third in all time Cup race win list at the track and the drivers ahead of him are championship winning NASCAR champions. The list features Darrell Waltrip at top with 12 wins, alongside Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace and Cale Yarborough at second with nine wins each.
Bad luck followed Kyle Busch to COTA
The RCR driver was gearing up to redeem himself by producing yet another stellar performance like the P2 from last year and secure the momentum he has lost in the last couple of races at COTA. But he might have to wait out this race week for the as well.
During the pre-race inspection ahead of the race at Austin, the No:8 Chevy failed twice before getting the clearance on the third attempt. Due to this their crew chief was sidelined and he has also lost his preferred pit-stall. Busch now have to start all the way at the back on Sunday.
RCR has to give Busch a solid car to race on Sunday and make sure they execute right on the pit-stop unlike the last races to help the veteran keeps his confidence high. The team desperately needs a momentum booster and the only guy who can provide them that is Kyle Busch, but for that to happen his team needs to do their part as well.
