The 2023 NASCAR Cup season finale witnessed the ascend of a Ford driver to a list of sports legends while another champion Ford driver marked his retirement. Team Penske Racing’s Ryan Blaney won the Cup title after finishing P2 behind race winner Ross Chastain. It was also the final race of Stewart Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick.

The 2014 Cup champion’s retirement will mark and end of an era, as he is the last driver active in the Cup series to have raced in the before the playoff format was introduced to the sport. This makes him, as claimed by Denny Hamlin, the last legacy driver of the sport since Kurt Busch also announced his retirement.

Harvick isnt going anywhere away from the sport; on the contrary, he will be present in the TV booth of Fox Sports, calling races from next season. While talking about it in his post-race interview at Phoenix, Harvick said that he is going to have a call with his team at Fox to discuss their plans for 2024 and hinted he is eager to tell the best race stories possible from next year.

I do already have calls next week with the folks from Fox and starting to work on end-of-the-year things for what we want to do there. But I still think the responsibility is just as big to go up there and try to give the fans as much information as possible and do a good job for Fox and everybody with this sport to tell the best story that we can. We have a lot of great drivers, a lot of great personalities, and I hope everybody gets to see that.
Harvick said, as reported by RACER.

Kevin Harvick expects Josh Berry to produce impressive results next season despite SHR’s winless run

Harvick, in the same interview, gave his opinion on what he expects the Stewart Haas Racing to do in 2024 after a disappointing 2023. They failed to give their drivers competitive rides, and other than occasional moments of brilliance from Harvick, their 2023 season has been dim.

Next season will make big changes for SHR, including a driver lineup change. Josh Berry will take over the No:4 Ford, and Aric Almirola will be replaced in the No:10 ride as well. Harvick expects SHR to bounce back and Berry to have a solid season next year.

To be able to lead laps in the last race kind of tells you how competitive we still are, and I think with some tweaks and adjustments to some of the things at Stewart-Haas, you could go right back out there and be where you need to be with everything that we have going on. Josh [Berry] is going to do a great job. I can’t wait to see Josh drive this car around.
