Netflix released the first season of their new docu-series on the premier stock car racing, NASCAR: Full Speed, on January 31st. It is one of the most streamed shows on the platform and has gone into the top 10 list in North America, Australia, and parts of Europe. It offers fans an authentic and entertaining look into the lives of the NASCAR stars.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin is the most explored driver on the series as he and his family opened their doors for the Netflix Camara to give fans an exclusive experience. Reigning champion Ryan Blaney. Hamlin’s drivers Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick, Willaim Byron, and 2021 Cup champion Kyle Larson got the most screen time.
At the same time, fan favorites like 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott, 2012 champion Brad Keselowski, and two-time Cup winner Kyle Busch weren’t featured in the show. The drivers were chosen based on their marketability and how much time they were ready to invest in the docu-series.
Busch, who finished P2 at the LA Clash while attending the press conference with Blaney and Joey Logano, was asked about the series. The RCR driver, who had very limited presence compared to the Penske duo, who had their segments in the series, couldn’t stop himself from cracking jokes about it.
I came across amazing, I think I was the star of the show. How about you guys?Kyle Busch asked the Penske drivers (H&T: On3.com).
Blaney responded quickly to his fellow champion, saying: “I loved watching you in it. I loved it.” They had a good laugh before discussing how good the show is for the sport and how it will help more fans come to the sport.
Brad Keselowski wasn’t even asked to get featured in the series
The RFK Racing owner-driver, ahead of the Clash, revealed that he wasn’t asked to be featured in the docu-series. He went on to point out that he understands why everyone won’t get featured in the first season and said he is hopeful that he would get a chance to contribute in the second season.
Nobody asked me but I understand they couldn't do everybody, so I'm not like angry about it. I think their program's going to be very successful and when it is, everybody will kind of get a turn. I didn't get the turn the first time, but I'm not bitter about it.
As Brad Keselowski predicted, the series’ second season might allow fans to explore the lives of their favorite drivers, who didn’t get featured in 2024, on and off the track. It is highly unlikely that the 2024 edition of the series won’t have Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch unless the driver doesn’t want to get featured.
