Richard Childress Racing and especially Kyle Busch had a weekend to forget at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The two times Cup champion failed to keep his car away from the wall throughout the weekend, and the one-day rain delay wasn’t enough for him to get away from the bad momentum. He crashed out in the last laps of stage one and ended his consecutive top 10s.

Busch lost control of his No:8 Chevy Camaro Zl1 into turn one and crashed into the wall, as he did twice in practice and qualifying. The car slid, and the right rear hit the wall. His car had severe damage to the right rear and front. RCR decided to retire the Chevy after realizing that it was beyond fixable. He was the first driver to retire at NHMS.

Busch, who started all the way at the back on the field on Monday noon, was awarded a P36 finish since he retired. Before crashing, he could climb up nine positions P27, but the crash ended his day early. His teammate Austin Dillon who started the race at P11 was able to end the race at P9, which gives the team some hope going into next week.

Busch, after the race, admitted that he failed to get the right rear feel since coming to the track and trying to find a different racing line caused the incident. He told the media,  “I’ve been lacking right rear grip the whole time we’ve been here. I just couldn’t get the right rear feel in the racetrack. You’re just going along, trying to keep it under you as much as you can. It was getting late in the run, and I was trying a different line, and it was just too high.”

He added that he hated that Chevy had a bad week but promised that they would bounce back at Pocono. He said, “I didn’t like to be that high on entry. I couldn’t give it wheel and have the right rear stick with the lateral grip that you need. Hate it for our No. 8 Lenovo Chevy team. Our Chevy stuff was a little off this week, at least for us, anyways. We’ll get back to it at Pocono.”
