Two times NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch shocked the NASCAR Cup garage when he announced his exit from Joe Gibbs Racing to join Richard Childress Racing. He ended his one-and-a-half-decade career with the Toyota giants after Joe Gibbs and crew failed to replace his longtime sponsor, M&M.
Kyle Busch, who is the windiest driver in the history of the sport, was under immense pressure in the whole of 2022 years. This, joined by the car under-delivering, prompted his exit in just the Round of 16 in the playoffs. He scored just one win the whole season and was never his true self amidst the uncertainty of contract extension.
The current No:8 RCR Chevy Camaro ZL1 claimed that he was under the impression that his career was over in 2022 amidst all the drama. He recalled an interaction he had with NASCAR owner Jim France in New Hampshire, where he admitted to the boss that 2022 might be his last year. Busch added that France may have done something to make the RCR move a possibility for him.
“I didn’t. It was [Loudon] weekend last year. I told Jim France, I said, ‘Nice knowing you. I’m not going to be here next year.’ And so he was like, ‘Wait, what? What does that mean?’ He then found out. Maybe he had something to do with it [here at RCR], I don’t know,” Kyle Busch told Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports.

The RCR debut has been impressive for Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch has made an impressive debut in returning to the Chevy garage. He scored his maiden Cup race win with RCR in just the second race of the season at Fontana. He went on to score two more wins this year. The second one came in Talladega, and the third came at Gateway.
He has shown superior consistency in the last seven races. He hasn’t finished outside the top 10 since the P35 finish in Kansas. From 19 races this season, he finished outside the top 10 in just 19 in 2023. At the same time last year, he was going through a poor streak of finishes.
“It’s gone about what I thought. I guess the three wins is probably a little bit ahead of where I thought we would be. But some of the consistency that I’ve not brought to the team of speeding on pit road, or just issues on the racetrack, incidents on the racetrack, mistakes [I’ve made] have been a lot. And that’s kind of set us behind,” Busch said about his RCR debut.
