Hendrick Motorsports Kyle Larson is arguably the greatest racer of his generation. The refined version of NASCAR legend Tony Stewart, Larson has won everywhere he has raced and is known for prowess behind the wheels. The 2021 Cup champion has recently revealed his retirement plans, which isn’t something many fans expected.

In NASCAR, often, the great drivers race beyond the age of 40 and still dominate the sport against their young rivals. The most recent example of such talent is Kevin Harvick. The 2014 Cup champion retired at the age of 42 after having a first-ballot NASCAR Hall of Famer entry-worth career with SHR and RCR.

Larson told ex-NASCAR driver and broadcaster Kenny Wallace that he wouldn’t race beyond 40. But for Larson, the early NASCAR exit is not a retirement; instead, he chooses to exit when he is still in his prime because he wasn’t to fight for the championship in the premier dirt racing scene. So, an early exit gives him the time to pursue his dream.

I mean, it’s hard to say when you’re in it. I don’t, like sitting here right now, I don’t see myself going to 40. But that’s not me retiring from racing. That’s why I think I’m different than others… for me, there’s a lot of stuff I want to accomplish while I’m still in my prime.

Larson told Kenny Conversations.

Kyle Larson is set to mark another milestone in 2024

Larson has many racing projects going into the 2024 season. One of his major highlights of him next year will be the Indy 500 entry. He will be the first NASCAR since Kurt Busch to race at the event as part of double duty weekend. Larson will drive for Arrow McLaren at the crown jewel race.

Another major project for him will be his expanded Sprint Car Racing series. The High Limit Racing Series purchased Tony Stewart’s Sprint car series as part of an expansion and has already confirmed the presence of some of the sport’s big names in their lineup. In 2024, Larson will be hoping for further expansion, growth, and a championship win there for him.

The most important objective, though, will remain the same: to win the 2024 Cup Series title with the No:5 HMS Chevy team. He missed out on it in 2023 despite a strong season, and next year, Larson is seeking redemption.
