But it failed to be the case though as the 2020 Cup series champion held his nerve while playing a cat and mouse game with Kyle Busch up front with the other two JGR drivers Denny Hamlin, the pole sitter, and Martin Truex Jr. who led a handful of laps this race, at one point seemed to have already secured the win, trying to run him down.

Josh Biliki brought out the caution in the final stage with a handful of laps left which gave the leaders two choices to either stay out from the pit or come in. The JGR duo of Busch and Truex Jr. decided to come into the pit lane, as the Busch earlier spotted saying there is “no grip” on his tire. While Chase Elliott decided to stay out the rest behind him came in giving Kurt Busch, Ryan Blaney and Kyle Larson were among the drivers who decided to stay out which proved to be fruitful for them as they secured front raw finishes.

There was a mixed reaction from the fans regarding Elliott’s win as they were an appreciation of his win at the same time criticism came at NASCAR for the fact that NASCAR didn’t call caution when Brad Keselowski experienced trouble in the final 4 lap showdown restart with 2 laps left of the race and Elliott in lead. The fans were infuriated by the fact the same caution which made Busch choose to come into the pit cost him more a front raw finish while Elliott was gifted a win by not calling caution.
