RCR boss Richard Childress didn’t mince his words about outgoing No:2 Chevy driver Sheldon Creed after his crash with Austin Hill at the Round of Eight elimination race at Martinsville.   The crash cost both the drivers as they failed to make it into the championship four race at Phoenix.

Hill, who was leading the race and was in a strong position to progress to the final race, while Creed had no option but to win the race to make it to the final four.  On the final lap, the duo bumped and banged each other in an intense fight for victory.

On turn three, Creed took the lead, with Hill and Justin Allgaier closely following him behind. But a failed attempt to clear turn-4 by Creed resulted in Hill getting on to his back and incurring significant damage. Allgaier used the opportunity to his advantage and took the win with ease to secure his spot in the finale.

Childress slammed his driver after the race, branding him the stupidest racer that he has ever given a seat to. The race was the penultimate race of Creed’s RCR career, as he announced earlier this month that he would be leaving the team at the end of the season, and the incident tainted what was already a troublesome relationship.

I’ve had drivers drive for me before, but nobody as stupid as Sheldon Creed…You don’t do that as a team player. What else do you want me to tell you?

Childress said, as reported by NBC Sports.

Sheldon Creed responds to Richard Childress’ comments

After the high-octane race, Creed was asked about his boss’s words and how he felt. Remarkably, the young driver kept his emotions aside and responded professionally despite being in that situation. He thanked Childress for all the opportunities he gave in the last two seasons.

For Richard, I just want to thank him for my time here. I’ve had a really good two years and I’ve learned a ton. My time has come to move on. I’ll forever be thankful for Richard. He was my first Xfinity opportunity out of Trucks.

Austin Hill also talked about the issue and confirmed that he is happy to see Creed leaving the team and expects his coming teammate Jesse Love will be better. He was not only angered with Creed’s move but was also furious that it cost both drivers the win.
