The 2022 season marked the breakout year of Trackhouse Racing and its two superstar drivers, Ross Chastain, and Daniel Suarez. The duo combined scored three Cup race wins, with the No:1 Chevy driver leading the way with two wins and Championship P2. Chastain earned the respect of the grid and established himself as a future title contender last season.

The 2023 season also witnessed the evolution of Trackhouse from a single-car team struggling for performance to a race-win-challenging two-driver team. Justin Marks and co-owner Pitbull also introduced impressive racing ventures, such as Project 91, aiming to expand the team and the sport internationally.

Trackhosue Racing’s very own Watermelon Man has now laid out some of his plans for the future. He wants to explore the open-wheel race from the IndyCar series.  IndyCar driver Connor Daly raced in the 2023 Daytona 500 for Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s team, revealed in his Speed Street podcast that he and Chastain talked about the latter’s potential IndyCar race entry. Chastain addressed the same matter in his Las Vegas Cup race media day and said the conversation with Daly had left him in a spot where he believes a potential entry is possible.

It definitely was a serious conversation. Our Cup simulator is right next to the Chevy IndyCar simulator, so I pass those guys weekly now, and I just had some genuine questions. I wouldn’t even know where to start, and I didn’t know what to ask him. He gave me a lot of advice; some definitely probably turned me away from it, but some (made me think) that’s attainable one day,” Ross Chastain said.

Chastain later pointed out that he wanted to explore other racing disciplines, and the increasing interest in open-wheel racing has also inspired his move. He said, “Every series is different, and every driver in those series has come up in a different way, so I just want to be exposed to (that). I wish I could have raced 15 years ago in another country and could have gotten to experience that, and I see some kids getting to do that now, and they mainly come up through the open-wheel ladder,”.

Ross Chastain believes that his boss Justin Marks will be able to help him to explore such outside-the-box activities.  He said, “Us circle-track racers, Saturday night short track, we’re pretty much in the same box. I want to get outside of my comfort zone and get outside of the box…With Justin Marks and Trackhouse, you never know. I would be open for it, but no, no plans. I just had genuine questions,”.
