Team Penske Racing secured their first back-to-back NASCAR Cup series title in Phoenix last Sunday. No:12 Ford Mustang driver Ryan Blaney finished the race at P2 behind race winner Ross Chastain to win his maiden Cup title. He became the third Penske driver to win the championship and has proven his doubters wrong.

While talking after the race, Blaney took a dig at former Cup driver and Richard Petty’s son, Kyle Petty, over his comments about the Ford driving ending his career as unfulfilled potential. He was called the next Kasey Kahne. The NASCAR legend is considered one of the biggest underachievers in the sport.

After the most important day of his NASCAR career, Blaney highlighted how hard it is to succeed in NASCAR. He said that he grew up idolizing Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordan, and Tony Stewart, champions drivers of the sport, and winning a title was always his dream. He then proceeded to say that his finally winning the title was enough to prove Petty wrong.

Ever since I was a little kid, right? I grew up admiring the Jimmie’s and Tony’s and Jeff Gordon’s of the sport, and all those guys are champions, right? And as a kid, you just wanna be like those guys. So it was super cool to finally see it come full circle. I worked so hard, it takes a lot to be good in this sport. I know Kyle Petty says that I never do anything. But hopefully proved him wrong tonight.
Ryan Blaney told Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

Kyle Petty has responded to Ryan Blaney’s dig

Petty, who now serves as a race analyst for NBC, is infamous for his unapologetic takes on NASCAR. He has never shied away from expressing his opinions and has also often been brave enough to admit when he is wrong.

Petty came across the words spoken by Blaney via a post and X and responded to it, saying he deserves the dig.

As well, he should have! I deserve it!

Both Blaney and Petty came from a racing family. The Petty family legacy is as hold as NASCAR, and Kyle was the last Petty to drive in the premier stock racing series. Compared to his seven-time Cup-winning father, Richard Petty, his achievements have been limited.

Blaney comes from a similar family with legendary racers, but unlike Kyle Petty, he is the most successful in his family. His father was a NASCAR driver who had limited success after a legendary stint in dirt racing, while his grandfather was a local racing champion.
