Senior NASCAR official gives update on a third edition of LA Clash at the Colosseum

LA Clash at the Colosseum 2022

The 2023 Busch Light LA Clash at the Colosseum will mark the unofficial start to the 75th-anniversary season of NASCAR. The cup series grid will line up for the first time since the Phoenix season finale and chase the glory in the 0.25-mile race. 2022 edition of the event, which also marked its debut, was a commercial success and was successful in attracting a new set of fans to the sport.

NASCAR expects similar or superior success in the event’s second edition. The racing will surely be more competitive compared to 2022 as the drivers were just getting to know the Next-Gen car then. Music concerts from Wiz Khalifa and Cypress Hill are also big attractions. But one question that bugs NASCAR fans is whether the event will return in 2024, as the two-year contract is up this year.

NASCAR VP of Marketing Services Patrick Rogers recently gave an interview where he opened up about a potential return to the Colosseum in 2024. NASCAR’s decision will be based on the success of this year’s event and the results from a fan survey that will be conducted. Any official confirmation about the continual will come only after the 2023 season is halfway.

The one thing about this particular event and the timing of it. You know, when it is, you kind of get a little bit restricted on where you can be from a weather perspective; the LA market is a little bit safer,” Rogers said.

He pointed out that NASCAR will conduct a survey and said, “All those things will weigh into a decision. And then we’ll make some sort of decision a few months after the event. But you know, again, for this year it made total sense to go back…We’ll take a peek at it once it’s over, and we’ll keep everyone in suspense for a few months and then let you know,”.

Alongside the star-packed entertainment line-up, NASCAR has also announced the names of two dignitaries attending the event. Actor/author Rob Lowe will take center stage after Cypress Hills pre-race concert. He will give drivers the command to start the race.

“This is shaping up to be another incredible event in the heart of Los Angeles. Rob Lowe’s body of work is nothing short of remarkable, and we can’t wait for him to begin the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season in style,” Ben Kennedy said about Lowe.

Caleb Williams, who led the USC Trojans to an 11-3 record and a spot in the Cotton Bowl, will serve as the event’s honorary starter. He will wave the green flag before the start. Willaims is the winner of the 2022-23 season’s Heisman Trophy.
