Stewart Haas Racing lost one of the biggest drivers ever in 2023 with the retirement of Kevin Harvick. The 2014 champion was given an impressive retirement tour by Tony Stewart’s team. SHR also lost one more veteran of the team Aric Almirola, who retired from full-time racing and has joined JGR to race part-time in the Xfinity Series.
With the departure of the senior drivers, Chase Briscoe becomes the main guy at SHR. He is the most experienced despite being younger than Ryan Preece and has proven to be a winner in the Cup series, unlike Preece. The replacement driver coming abroad Josh Berry and Noah Gragson also has very limited experience at the top.

While talking to NASCAR SiriusXM Radio, Briscoe pointed out that the biggest thing he wants to be going into the 2024 season and beyond is to be the new Harvick at SHR. He wants to naturally become the leader at SHR by consistently performing at the track and wants to make his No:14 Mustang synonymous with the SHR team.
For me, that’s the biggest thing is I wanna be the new Kevin Harvick at Stewart-Haas. I wanna be the guy that’s running up front week in and week out and when people think about Stewart-Haas, they think of the 14 car. That’s my whole goal going into this season and if we do that, then that leadership role just naturally gets placed upon you.Briscoe said, as reported by On3.com.
Chase Briscoe insists just seniority doesn’t make a leader
The ex-Xfinity champion also pointed out that he won’t become the lead driver at SHR just because he has been with the team the longest. He believes he has to earn it by becoming a consistent performer on the track for the team.

But I think it’s hard to just say going into the season that you’re going to be the leader now at the place just because you’ve been there the longest. I think it comes from performance and that’s where we to back that up.
Briscoe regardless of his choice is the leader at SHR simply based on the fact that he will be the only driver who has experience of winning a Cup race. He was also the second-best SHR driver in 2023 behind Harvick. The youngster has already showcased he is ready to be the man for SHR, now it is time to prove in on the track.
