NASCAR Cup Managing director Brad Moran has come forth revealing why they have penalized the JGR duo saying there were some issues discovered that affect the aero of the cars in the front fascia where no such materials existence was permitted by the regulation. He added that disqualification of drivers was basically an aftermath of it.

There were some issues discovered that affect aero of the vehicle. The part was the front fascia. And there really was no reason why there was some material that was somewhere that it shouldn’t have been, and that does basically come down to a DQ,” Brad Moran said.

The NASCAR senior official pointed out that the inspection witnessed enough to warrant a DQ and is bringing the cars for further inspection to the NASCAR R&D center.  He pointed out that a much closer inspection of cars will take place there and shred his hope that they won’t be finding any more infractions with it.

We saw enough that the DQ was warranted and we are bringing the vehicles back for further evaluation. So, we will look much closer at both vehicles, but as of right now, no, we are hopefully not going to find anything else. But we are going to inspect them further when we get back to the R&D Center,” Brad Moran added.

Brad Moran went on to say that it’s unfortunate and the last thing they want, to talk about this kind of thing after one of the best races if the season in came in Pocono.  He pointed out that every team and owner is aware of the fact that with the Next-Gen cars there are some areas that are tightly regulated and banned from modification which was permitted to cars in the past, so it’s a path that should not have been explored.

It’s unfortunate. We don’t want to be here talking about this. We just saw a great race. The last thing we want to do is meet here afterward and talk about this problem. But the teams and the owners and everybody is well aware that this new car was going to be kept with some pretty tight tolerances, and there are some areas that all the teams are well aware that we cannot be going down the path that we had in the past with the other car,” Brad Moran explained.
