NASCAR president makes blunt admission: Joey Logano “doesn’t give a s***,” while racing

NASCAR President Steve Phelps has shared his opinion on defending Cup champion Joey Logano and his aggressive driving style. Phelps pointed out that Logano has a dual personality and one for the track and the other for his track exploits. The No:22 Ford Mustang Team Penske Racing driver has been called out by many for his racing style.

Logano would never change his racing style if not for any major sporting regulation. He hasn’t become one of the most accomplished drivers of his generation by accident. It took determination, perseverance, and hard work.  His cunning nature and controlled, aggressive driving made him the champion he is today.

Steve Phelps, the current NASCAR president, shared his view on the driver on an I Am Athlete-NASCAR podcast co-hosted by NFL players, Brandon Marshall, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder, he was asked who he thinks is the Emmitt Smith of NASCAR. The three times Super Bowl winner is known for giving everything on the field for the win. He named Joey Logano as a nice guy off-track, and the bad boy while in the car.

I’m going to go Joey Logano. I’ll give you just a quick why. Because I don’t know Emmitt Smith well, but I’ve met him a couple of times. He’s sharp. He’s obviously an incredible talent, Hall of Famer and all that. Think he does a really good with his own brand and I think he cares about that sport,” Steve Phelps said.

Joey Logano cares about this sport. I’d say Joey’s a little more — when he’s out of the car, phenomenal guy. Smart. Cares about the sport. When he’s in the car, he doesn’t give a s***,” the former NFL marketing manager added.

Kyle Busch labeled Joey Logano two-faced at the start of 2023

The Busch-Logano rivalry is no breaking news in NASCAR. They have been bitter rivals since Logano exited JGR and joined Penske Racing. He is the driver, Kyle Busch, the closest to the team. The aggressive style of racing both drivers had eventually made them bitter rivals and even led to physical confrontation. They still share enmity, though has respect for each as they are the only active multi-champions.

But it doesn’t stop them from calling out or criticizing each other. After the 2023 unofficial season opened the LA Clash, Busch was furious with his former teammate for unwanted aggressive driving. He called him a two-faced individual, pointing figures at his opposite approaches on and off track.

The problem with Joey is he’s two-faced. So people know I’m an ass****. So I might be an ass**** on the race track, which I’m really not, but Logano, he’ll come in here, and he’s laughy and go lucky, go with the flow, like the super-nice guy, all this stuff. Does great for charity, everything like that,” Kyle Busch said.

When you put him on the racetrack, he flips the ass**** switch on the back of his head. To me, I hate two-faced guys. That drives me absolutely nuts. For if you’re going to be a nice guy, be a nice guy on the race track as well. That fries me,” Kyle Busch added.
