“That’s A Bullcrap Call NASCAR” NASCAR Twitter reacts to Denny Hamlin’s DQ in Pocono Raceway that cost him the win
Denny Hamlin celebrating his stripped away win at Pocono
After being denied his third victory of the year at Pocono and his JGR teammate Kyle Busch’s P2 finish, Denny Hamlin and the whole Joe Gibbs Racing garage were left in total disgust. Unauthorized materials were discovered in the front facia of the veteran team’s No. 18 and No. 11 Toyota Camrys, disqualifying Bush and Hamlin.
Despite the No. 11 driver’s celebration on the podium, Chase Elliott, driving the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports, received the victory after the inspection. Elliott will be winning the cup for the third time in his last five races; his previous two results were P2s. Following the reallocation of results future 23X1 Racing driver Tyler Reddick came in second, while Daniel Suarez of Trackhouse Racing took third. Kyle Larson finished behind Christopher Bell in fourth place, earning fifth place.
The loss brought more disappointment for Denny Hamlin as he was able to earn the record for the most Pocono wins and equal the wins record in the cup held by legend Tony Stewart which all got reset post-inspection. This is the first time since 1960 that the driver finishing P1 is stripped of the win and JGR can appeal the decision in the coming days to reverse the decision in their favor. It is also hard to reflect on the fact that NASCAR failed to spot such infractions in the pre-race inspections.
How NASCAR Twitter reacted to Denny Hamlin’s DQ
NASCAR twitter had a strong and mixed reaction towards the post-race DQ of Denny Hamlin as the veteran being one of the most vocal drivers of the grid over the years has some of the strongest pack of supporters and critics in the NASCAR community. Some of the comments in support of Denny Hamlin came in light of the conspired bias NASCAR has towards Elliott and HMS while there were also trolls aiming at the veteran from Ross Chastain supporters.
