The 16th round of the 2022 season NASCAR Cup series will commence in Sonoma Raceway as the California race track host the second road course racing of this year. The 1.99 miles track will offer drivers every chance to showcase who among them is the best in road courses as they have got with them the important road course race data and experience following the COTA outing.
Going into the race weekend Hendricks Motorsports driver Chase Elliott who is the active driver with most road Course win, COTA winner Ross Chastain, and the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran duo of Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. will be the drivers to look up to on Sunday. The Stewart Hass Racing No:14 Ford Mustang driver Chase Briscoe who won the early season race, the phoenix cup race, will also be someone to look up to.
Chase Briscoe has been having an incredible season so far outperforming his veteran teammate by miles in his SHR and has a win under his belt which none of his teammates hasn’t been even able to come close to. Though there have been some hiccups in the near future Briscoe will be hoping to turn everything around and solidify his place in the playoff as he comes forth expressing his thoughts on the coming race.
Find out what Chase Briscoe had to say about the coming race
Chase Briscoe acknowledged that his last season outing at Sonoma was tough as it was super technical and the limited experience he had there as ARCA West Race the previous day wasn’t enough to give him the edge. He added that going into this year’s race he is more of a mature driver as he was more concerned about not messing around with other racers’ races last time alongside hard learning how-to drive-in cup series.
“Last year was tough. Sonoma is a super technical track, and the only experience I had there was in the ARCA West race the day before, so I didn’t have a whole lot to use to prepare. I think I’ve become more confident as a driver. Last year, I was trying really hard to learn how to race in the Cup Series while not messing up other drivers and I realized I had to get over that,” Chase Briscoe said.
Chase Briscoe went on to say that he learned a lot from getting on the track with his fellow cup drivers on how to drive on certain tracks. He went on to say that the 2022 season so far has been a better one for him as he mentioned his Phoenix win and acknowledged that though he was unable t put forth a good performance at COTA he is excited about the second road course to see how it goes. Chase Briscoe pointed out that his car is now more than capable of wini9ng another race which he expects to do so in the near future to seal playoffs.
“I learned a lot more by getting up there and racing these guys to see what they could figure out from how they drive certain tracks. This season has been good so far. We got off a little after the Phoenix win, and COTA didn’t really go the way we wanted, but I’m excited to get to another road course and see how it goes. This car is much better on-road courses than what we’ve had in the past and I think this is a chance for us to get another really good finish and maybe another win to secure our spot in the playoffs a little more than it is now,” Chase Briscoe added.
