NASCAR has grown in popularity quite a bit in recent years, and some of it has been down to the post-race antics of the drivers. Burnouts have become extremely common in the sport, and former racer turned NBC Racing Analyst, Kyle Petty believes that it is not as appealing as some think, because these days, everybody is doing it.

Kyle Petty has even gone on to indicate that burnouts are just leading to the destruction of the tires, and while shedding light on the same, he said, “I grew up working on cars. I grew up putting bodies on cars and hanging them, putting them together, changing springs and changing shocks and engines and stuff.

This is just destruction to me every time I see it and always has been. I want to say this: I think the burnout has become like spiking the ball in the NFL was. Everybody did it, so what’s special about it? There’s nothing special about it.” Looking at the comments of Petty, it is quite clear that he is not a big fan of post-race burnouts.

Moreover, he ardently feels, that nowadays, drivers are doing it just for the sake of it and that there is nothing special about it. He has grown up as someone very close to racing cars, and for him, it is just very difficult to see post-race burnouts. By his comments, Pettty has tried his absolute best to get the attention of the decision-makers regarding the subject matter.

Kyle Petty’s take on Joey Logano and Kyle Busch’s Burnouts

In modern-day NASCAR racing, the drivers are very aggressive during the events and prefer to put on a show for the thousands of people that are in attendance. They try their best during races through their slick moves, and after the race, they try to hold the attention of the spectators by doing burnouts on the track.

Most drivers do burnouts these days, and Petty, while talking about Joey Logano and Kyle Busch‘s burnouts, said, “Joey Logano does a great job with his burnouts and the way he takes his steering wheel off and holds it out the window. That’s different; that’s a little bit of a twist. The way Kyle Busch does his burnout and then emerges through the smoke and bows to the crowd, that’s slightly different. Everybody else is just doing the same thing, man.”

Kyle Petty is quite intrigued with how Logano and Busch go about doing their post-race burnouts, but still, he is not a fan of the thing. He does not see pleasing the fans as reason enough for doing the burnouts and would ideally want to see it getting banned in the sport. What are your thoughts on Kyle Petty’s strong remarks against post-race burnouts?
