‘This one means a lot in a lot of different ways,’ Championship leader Chase Elliott on his first win of 2022 at Dover Cup Series Race
Chase Elliott wins the Dover Motor speedway Cup race
The No:9 Hendrick Motorsport team’s long wait for a victory is over as their former Cup Champion driver and 2022 championship leader Chase Elliott delivered them their first win of the 2022 season at the postponed DuraMAX Drydene 400 in Dover. Chase Elliott’s first win of the season means all the four drivers of HMS have secured a Cup win in 2022 in their Next-Gen car.
Chase Elliott was battling hard against Talladega race winner Ross Chastain in the last restart at lap 348 but kept his nerve to secure the pole just after the restart and hold on to it until the final lap. The champion’s desperation to end his 26 race winless drought meant he drove in a way making sure no one passes him and then P2 Ross Chastain lost the battle for P2 after he collided with Martin Truex Jr.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. took the opportunity to secure the p2 after the No:1 car crash and he was accompanied by Christopher Bell and Alex Bowman at P4 and P5 below Ross Chastain at P3. The winner Chase Elliott in the post-race interview acknowledged that it is great to send on the winning side.
