Stewart Haas Racing is one of the most historically dominant NASCAR outfits in the Cup Series but over the last couple of years, the team has been going through some bad patches of racing. Though the team has been able to bounce back and produce some race-winning runs the team is not yet closed their dominant years in the past.
In the 2022 season so far SHR had one win, in all the 12 rounds of racing in which all of its 4 cars and respective drivers secured start, thanks to their No:14 Ford Mustang driver Chase Briscoe who won the Phoenix cup race. The team so far has been having a consistent year with their drivers Aric Almirola and Chase Briscoe securing constant top 10s for the team.
But it’s not all smooth sailing for the team as their other driver Veteran Kevin Harvick has been having a run similar to what he had last year alongside Cole Custer who is yet to secure a top 10 finish this season and has already had 4 DNFs this season. This Dichotomy in the results from their drivers in Next-Gen cars is a struggle for SHR.
Now Tony Stewart, NASCAR Hall of Famer and 3 times Cup Series Champion one of which he secured with SHR has come forth expressing his thoughts on the team run so far with the next-Gen Mustangs and their progress compared to 2021.

Tony Stewart acknowledged that the SHR was below average compared to its previous performances and now with the Next-Gen car’s introduction the team is now in the middle of the grid in terms of performance. He said that they are now making progress and getting to the front row adding he learning the likes and dislikes of the new car is a big challenge.
“Last year was not a year that Stewart-Haas Racing is used to having by any means. But coming with the new car you have the ability to get ahead early or get behind early. I think we were kind of in the middle of that, and we’re making ground and getting toward the front of it now. Trying to learn what these new cars like and dislike is a big challenge,” Tony Stewart said.
Tony Stewart went on to say he is happy with the progress of SHR which he sees happening every week. He added that though it is really hard to know how your season is going to be at the beginning, once you find the momentum to go forward progress will happen and Tony Stewart suggests that he is seeing that change with all 4 of his cars.
“I keep seeing progress each week, so I feel like I’m happy with the progress. It’s hard to know when you start the season where you’re going to be, especially with a new car like this. Once you get going what you want to see is progress, progression, and moving toward the front of the field, and I feel like consistently we’re moving in that direction and it’s not just one or two of the cars. All the cars are moving in that direction together,” Tony Stewart added.
