William Byron wins 2023 Darlington Cup race
Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron has become the first three times Cup race winners of the 2023 season. He drove the No:24 Car to yet another historic win. Byron had the luxury of luck in the race as he inherited the lead after the crash between Ross Chastain and Kyle Larson, who was leading the race.
He then had to out-race veteran Kevin Harvick who gave a masterclass on how to race your opponent’s clean in the final laps. The No:4 Ford Mustang wasn’t fast enough compared to Byron’s Chevy Camaro ZL1 on the day, and the youngster could hold off the SHER driver with ease to win the race surviving the chaos and overtime restart.
“Yeah, it’s pretty amazing. My granddad passed away on Thursday, and just, man, I wish my family could be here. Just things have a way of working out, honestly. It just worked out that way today. We didn’t have the best third stage. We just kept battling, and things just kind of come back around,” Byron said.
He added that the win was unexpected. Byron said, “Definitely didn’t expect this. But just thankful for a great team, and, yeah, just things have a way of working out, and to come back here to Darlington and have it go exactly the other way,”.
Veteran Harvick finished the race at P2. Chase Elliott, like his teammate, survived the chaos to score a P3, while RFK Racing’s Brad Keselowski secured P4. Bubba Wallace of 23XI Racing, who started the race at P2, secured back-to-back top 5s to end the day as the best-performing Toyota driver.

The NASCAR fans on Twitter had a mixed reaction to the youngster’s third win of 2023. They appreciated Byron’s impressive run that earned the win and pointed out that he deserved it for being consistent. Some fans weren’t as convinced as they claim all of the No:24s win this year came due to his luck.
