NBA legend Michael Jordan’s wait to see his driver Bubba Wallace in the playoff continues. The 23XI Racing driver came close to a win at Talladega, the track which marked the first-ever win of Wallace and the TRD team. The No:23 Camry was turned on the final lap in double overtimes by Team Penske racing driver Ryan Blaney resulting in a Multicar wreck.
Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch, who was nearly running out of fuel, secured his second win of the season as he was the race leader when caution was called. Bubba Wallace mistiming the block is the reason why the crash did occur. The two times Cup race winner miscalculated the momentum the No:12 Mustang had and failed to anticipate his move as well. He was too close to make the bloke move, and the incident was inevitable.
Michael Jordan was hoping he could see his driver scoring an important win on Sunday and was on his toes in the final laps as Wallace marched to the front. But his head dropped in disappointment and disbelief as the No:23 car got turned by Ryan Blaney. He was spotted placing his hands on his head and leaning back after the incident while the individuals around him showed similar frustration.
Jordan joined hands with Joe Gibbs Racing veteran and his longtime friend Denny Hamlin to field the 23XI Racing team in 2021. The team has scored 4 Cup race wins so far—two virtue of Wallace and one each from Kurt Busch and Tyler Reddick. Unfortunately for Jordan, none came when he was in the pit box. He has witnessed many disappointing ends to 23XI’s races but is yet to celebrate one from the pit box.
