Michael Jordan and Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin built the NASCAR Cup series team 23XI Racing from scratch in 2021. Within two years, the Toyota team has become a consistent challenger for race wins and is soon on the right path to becoming a championship contender. The team currently fields two full-time and one part-time car in the Cup series.
The team signed championship prodigy Tyler Reddick last season from RCR. He was one of the most promising drivers in the Chevy garage, and landing him at Toyota was one of the best business decisions made by the duo. Reddick has opened up about his moments with the NBA legend on race days.
Jordan often finds time from his busy schedule to visit the 23XI pit box. While he is just there to support 23XI as a team owner, for fans, it’s an opportunity to meet one of the greatest athletes in the world. This puts him in a situation where he can’t get in and get out of the track without fans bugging him.
“It’s great having him at the race track. I know it probably is a headache for him to try and get in and out without being bugged. He just wants to be there for the race team and be a part of the team,” Tyler Reddick said.

Tyler Reddick says talking to boss Michael Jordan is a cool experience

Jordan has occasionally visited the NASCAR paddock this season to support his drivers but hasn’t been fortunate enough to see them score wins. The team has secured four cup wins so far. Though he isn’t physically present, he always connects with his drivers via calls and text messages. According to Reddick, talking to Jordan is an excellent experience.
“Any time you get to talk, Michael is really cool. Any time you get a text from the boss checking in on you, wishing you luck, patting you on the back, or whatever it might be, it’s always really great. He’s definitely locked in, paying attention,” Tyler Reddick said.
Tyler Reddick has already secured his playoff spot with an impressive win at COTA. According to the TRD drivers, his road course expertise has helped 23XI, and JGR has a better race package to shine in such races. He has proved an asset for the team in the upcoming seasons.
