NASCAR’s second coming, this season, to the Atlanta Motor Speedway turned out to be a strong and challenging race as the No:9 HMS Chevy Camaro ZL1 Chase Elliott scored his first win in his hometown track. Chase Elliott had to hold off Corey Lajoie and Ross Chastain’s onslaught before finishing the race at P1 under the yellow flag as the former crashed out.
Austin Dillon, the No:3 Richard Childress Racing, Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver, was among the drivers to have the most disappointing finishes on Sunday at the track for a reason that has nothing to do with him. Austin Dillon who had one of the fastest Chevy on the track was on his way to the win and if not for him crashing out he might have secured the playoffs spot his teammate Tyler Reddick secured at Road America.
Austin Dillon was crashed out of the race after Martin Truex Jr. was spun by Ross Chastain, who was on an aggressive run throughout the race. Austin Dillon failed to successfully save his run as Truex Jr. spun before him. Now Austin Dillon has come forth to express his thoughts on the race which turned out to be a disappointing one for him.

Austin Dillon acknowledged that he is son was bummed out for his No:3 team on the finish as they had one of the fastest Chevy on the track but ended up a victim of someone else’s mistake at the end of the race. He pointed out that his car was really tight on the first run and loose on the second and added that they were really good after that.
“Man, I’m so bummed out for this entire Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Off-Road team. We had a fast Chevy today – just ended up a victim of someone else’s mess. Our Chevy was really tight on the first run, then loose on the second run. After that, we were really good and coming,” Austin Dillon said.
Austin Dillon went on to say that he had nowhere to go before the crash and is thankful to the Lord that he wasn’t hurt as it was a nasty crash. He added that he had plans to race hard all day but had to adjust his strategy a few times as there were some drivers upfront who was already top crash the half of the field. He added that the temperature on the track made the car less drivable than it usually is.
“We just had nowhere to go. Thank the Good Lord above that we were okay. The hit looked bad, but the impact wasn’t as bad as it looked. I told myself that we were going to race hard all day rather than riding in the back, but when you got guys out there wrecking half the field, you might as well pick a different strategy. These Next Gen cars are hard to drive, and you’ve got to make them drive better when it’s hot outside,” Austin Dillon added.
Austin Dillon acknowledged that they did a pretty good job making the car get to the bottom and added that they were making a lot of headway in the race before getting in the mess. He went on to add that they’re going to work hard to get to victory lane in the coming race weeks and they will get there for sure.
“I thought we did a good job making my car get to the bottom. We were making a lot of headway in the race before we got caught up in someone else’s mess. We’re going to keep on keeping on and work each week to get to Victory Lane. I want to thank Johnny Morris and all of the guys at Bass Pro Shops and TRACKER Off-Road, along with everyone at RCR and ECR. We will get there,” Austin Dillon explained.
