NASCAR’s outing in the California Northern Wine Country for the annual Toyota/Save Mart 350 was a historic spectacle that will be part of the cup history for a long. The Sonoma Speedway though quiet at the beginning of the final finish of the race had very flavor and stories of struggles fans carve in a race. Daniel Suarez earned himself his first career victory in a cup race alongside marking the first race victory for a Mexican driver in the Cup series.
The historic moment was a testament to the struggle the No:99 Trackhouse Racing Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver had to overcome in his bid to achieve NASCAR greatness. Daniel Suarez, one of the earliest Drive for Diversity graduates, made his way to the cup series after winning the 2016 Xfinity series championship joining Stewart-Hass Racing which didn’t go as planned as he struggled to get a win.
Daniel Suarez was the first driver to join Trackhouse Racing in their inaugural season in 2021 and was later joined by Ross Chastain at the beginning of 2022. But the winless run was there to stay for Suarez as he missed out on the chance to secure the first two wins for the Trackhouse Racing team as Chastain secured both of them. Though Suarez was one of the most consistent drivers on the track luck was never on his side.
Last Sunday everything fell in the right place at the right time for the Mexican as he dominated the final stage and kept Chris Buescher at bay in the final laps to win his first race, which assures him a place in this year’s playoffs. Now in his post-race press conference, Suarez has come forth expressing his thoughts on how good is his team to go deep in the coming playoff.
Find out what Daniel Suarez said
Daniel Suarez answered the question of whether they will be deep in the playoff saying he thinks they will and went on to say that the beautiful part of his team racing is that they are getting stronger as they go forth. He added that if he was asked the question three or two months ago his answer would have been we are strong to get there but now he says that his team is getting stronger each day.
“I think we are. I think we are. The beautiful part is that we get stronger as we go. If you were asking me that question three months ago, I was going to tell you, man, we have work to do. We have the potential, but we have work to do. Two months ago, I was starting to believe more. A month ago, I would say, Heck, yeah. Right now, of course, we are here. We just keep getting stronger,” Daniel Suarez said.
Daniel Suarez went on to say that they will get stronger than what they are right now within a month and will keep working. He added that though today was amazing with a lot of things coming right for them, the car could have been a bit better. Daniel Suarez went on to add that the big picture in their bid to be a great team is to find what you could have done better or what you could have done differently, and he pointed out that it’s what they will be doing from now on.
“I guarantee you that in a month from now we’re going to be stronger than right now. We’re going to keep working. Today was amazing. We did a lot of things right. But we believed that our car could have been a little bit better. So, when you look at the big picture and always try to see yourself as what you could have done better or different, that’s when you become a great team. I feel like we’re on our way there,” Daniel Suarez added.
