Why was Mike Kelley appointed as Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s new crew chief?

Mike Kelley will rejoin Ricky Stenhouse Jr. as the new No. 47 JTG Daugherty Racing Chevrolet team crew chief.  He was Stenhouse’s crew chief when he made his full-time cup debut in 2014. Kelly and Stenhouse won back-to-back Xfinity series titles in 2011 and 2012.

Kelly will replace veteran crew chief Brian Pattie, who left the team to reunite with Kyle Busch in the No:51 KBM Truck team. Pattie and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. had successful seasons together at JTG Daugherty Racing. The 2017 season was their most successful one. Stenhouse finished 13th in the championship standings with two race wins.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. said he is proud of his victories with Pattie and grateful for his friendship. He said, “Brian and I accomplished a lot together and won two Cup races, and that’s not easy in this sport. I’m grateful for our friendship and wish him well in his endeavors,”.

Stenhouse plans to work hard with Mike Kelly in the off-season for a productive 2023. He said, “Mike and the team and I will continue our preparations this offseason and be ready for the new year with our Kroger Racing partners,”.

Mike Kelley said that he respects the success Brian Pattie brought to the team. He added that his past success and failures with Stenhouse would help them be competitive and deliver results in the upcoming season.

“We respect Brian and what he did for the company, and we wish him the best. We learned a lot together, and I believe the previous successes and failures give us the knowledge we need to be competitive and deliver the results for our partners in the coming season,” Mike Kelley said,

Mike Kelly added that the championships he secured with Stenhouse in the Xfinity series are very special for him. He pointed out that the championships they won were a testament to the fact that ‘if someone believes in something and works hard for it, he accomplishes it’.

“It’s been a little bit, but those championships with Ricky mean the world to me. It proves that a team can dream, work hard, and execute to reach the top. When you believe, it’s amazing what you can accomplish,” Mike Kelley added.
