Trackhouse Racing driver Ross Chastain returned to winning ways last weekend at Nashville, ending the drama around his aggressive racing style. He is now up against an entirely different challenge this weekend at Chicago as Cup and Xfinity drivers are set to make their Street course Racing debut.
Chastain, while discussing the upcoming challenge on Sunday, pointed out that he will be prioritizing securing stage points over a race win on Sunday. The last season’s cup runner-up said that from his experience in the simulators, the track is unapologetic when it comes to breaking, and a driver’s day can end due to a minor mistake.
“I could very easily drive it into the tire barriers about every corner if I’m not careful. I’ve done that on the simulator quite a bit. You make the brake zone by just a few feet, and there’s no run-off. Yes, I want points and I want to win, but I’m more looking at it from the big picture of us as a whole, and if it elevates all of us, it’ll pay off for me in the long run,” Ross Chastain said.
Chastain and his Mexican teammate Daniel Suarez will not be the only drivers on track in Trackhouse colores on Sunday. They are joined by three times SuperCars champion Shane van Gisbergen. Nicknamed SVG, the Kiwi driver will make his Cup debut as part of Trackhouse’s Project 91. He is the first driver since Kimi Raikkonen to drive the car.

Ross Chastain’s teammate Daniel Suarez predicts a crazy race at Chicago
Daniel Suarez believes the Chicago Challenge will be a crazy afire. He pointed out that everyone in the NASCAR garage is clueless about how the race will turn out for the drivers as it’s the street course debut for most of the grid. The <Mexican says that the event at the heart of Chicago will be crazy for the fans.
“I think it is going to be one of the greatest events in NASCAR’s 75-year history! Nobody knows how the racing will turn out, but as an event, I think it is going to be incredible. We just need to get time on the track, and we’ll see how the race plays out. I suspect it’s going to be pretty crazy, which the fans usually love,” Daniel Suarez said.
Chicago might be an opportunity for the 2023 Sonoma race winner to land his second career Cup win. He has good Road Course racing experience, and it’s time to use it well. It will also help him to end his lack of consistency so far this season despite having a solid car in most races.
