“Yellow flag merchant” NASCAR Twitter reacts to HMs drivers Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott’s hometown win at Atlanta
Chase Elliott wins Atlanta Cup Race
Chase Elliott, a hometown hero piloting the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy Camaro ZL1 and extending his championship lead over Ross Chastain, who came in second, won the 19th round of the NASCAR Cup Series at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. After Corey LaJoie slammed the wall while battling with Elliott in the penultimate lap of the superspeedway race on the intermediate track, the race was interrupted under the yellow flag.
The No:7 With just two laps remaining in the final restart, Ross Chastain and Chase Elliott were riding on the tail of Spire Motorsports driver Corey LaJoie, who was attempting to win his first Cup race of the season. While racing his 96th lap of the 260-lap race, Chase Elliott was able to take the lead on the last lap and maintain it by aggressively blocking LaJoie, which eventually ended in the finish under caution as LaJoie slammed into the wall.
This was the third win of the season for the 2020 cup series champion who now sits in a quasi-comfortable position to secure the regular-season championship. Chase Elliott’s earlier wins came in Dover’s “Monster mile” and in Nashville and he will be hoping to get the winning momentum behind him as he chases the best position that can assure him a good start for the coming playoff.
