“You dread it,” Joey Logano demands NASCAR to host only one race per season in Daytona and Talledega

NASCAR cup series earned the premier stock car racing status in the motorsport world for its competitiveness and the on-track stories that were unveiled in each race though out its history.  The fandom the organization created has also to do with the aggressive racing and the subsequent wrecks it produced in the NASCAR races, especially in the Superspeedways.

But for drivers and teams, the superspeedway events have always been a tough nut to crack as the financial and physical burden they are risking is huge in these races. Among the widely famous races in NASCAR, the superspeedways such as Daytona and Talledega has prominent spaces as the race on these tracks usually ends as wreck fests.

Now Joey Logano, the No:22 Team Penske Racing driver who is notorious for his aggressive style of racing, has come forth to express his thoughts on such kinds of races as he doesn’t want them to be part of NASCAR for multiple race weekends as there too much at risk. The opinions came after the 2022 regular season finale saw Austin Dillon squeezing his way to win in the wreck fest that happened in Daytona, while the top 10 consisted of a number of usual backtrackers.

Joey Logano talked about last Sunday’s Daytona race and acknowledged that when you look at all the top drivers that were running up front on Daytona at the start and them finishing in the garage. He went on to say that when you look into the top 10, it can be seen that most of them were ringing at the back throughout the day, which he doesn’t believe is something the fans want to see.

Look at all of the guys that were running up front in that race that was doing really, really well. Where’d they finished? In the freaking garage. And then you look at the top 10 of these races afterward, and you’re like, ‘They rode around the back all day long doing nothing, just riding around.’ Is that what we want? Is that what fans want to see?” Joey Logano asked.

Joey Logano pointed out that the superspeedway races have a broken system as drivers can decide to ride at the back all day and then finish inside the top 10 at the end, saying, “I have to really think about that as a driver in the field. I’ve got to think, ‘Should I just ride around in the back and do nothing all day long and finish in the top 10?’ … That’s a broken system if you ask me,”.

Joey Logano then made his point that every driver, after each crash, will say that they hate the place at the infield care center and pointed out that drivers will dread it eventually since they know the impact is coming.

Listen to every driver after they get out in the infield care center and they get out, and they’re all like, ‘I hate this place. I hate this place,’. You dread it eventually because you just know it’s coming. Like you strap in, and you’re like, ‘I’m pulling these bad boys extra tight today because there’s a really good chance that I’m sideways on the fence at some point,’” added Joey Logano.
