The 2024 NASCAR playoff will kick start at the Atlanta Motor Speedway this Sunday. 16 drivers will line-up with the ultimate goal of winning the championship, with the almost all of the top-teams in the battle for the championship. As it has been for over the last two decades the fight is between HMS, JGR and Team Penske.

Seven times Cup champion Richard Petty has made his championship prediction ahead of the post-season opener. He released a video, via his official social media handle, where he chose the driver who would get eliminated from each round and the eventual champions. He is banking on JGR’s Denny Hamlin to come out victorious.

Petty’s prediction for the first round was straightforward. He doesn’t see Penske’s Austin Cindric, SHR’s Chase Briscoe, Trackhouse’s Daniel Suarez and Wood Brothers’ Harrison Burton getting eliminated. These four being the weeks drivers in the last-16 makes his selection easy. The R-12 elimination line-up feature some bold predictions.

He claimed regular season champion Tyler Reddick would get eliminated, which is very unlikely but can happen, alongside Brad Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr. and Alex Bowman. For R-8 his list features William Byron, Joey Logano, Chase Elliott and Ty Gibbs. Then he predicts Hamlin will beat Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney and Christopher Bell.

NASCAR legend Dale Inman makes his prediction

On the same video, Petty is joined by legendary crew chief and his cousin Dale Inman. He also sees a championship win from a Toyota, but instead of Denny Hamlin he picked Christopher Bell as the 2024 champion. His R-16 prediction is exactly the same as Petty, featuring Briscoe, Burton, Suarez and Cindric.

In the second round of the playoff, he expects to see Brad Keselowski, Ty Gibbs, Alex Bowman and Joey Logano to get eliminated. His list of potential drivers getting eliminated from R-8 are Willaim Byron, Martin Truex Jr., the defending champion Blaney and Chase Elliott.

His championship-4 includes Reddick, Hamlin, Larson and Bell. From there he picked the only driver who has made it to all the finales of the Next-Gen era to win his maiden championship. The legends prediction seems to indicate that Toyota has the upper hand going into the post-season.
