The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season witnessed history in making, as Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin secured the 60th Cup race win of his career on Sunday at Las Vegas. It was the 6th win of the season for the three times Daytona 500 champion and it has earned him his first championship-4 entry of the Next-Gen.

Seven times Cup Series champion Richard Petty shared his thoughts on the Toyota driver’s performance, and the milestone win via video shared of Petty Family YouTube channel. The veteran is really impressed with the No:11 Camry driver Denny Hamlin’s performance this season, believe the veteran has cemented himself as the favorite.

Well, right now he’s got the best chance because he’s automatically in to the top playoff deals. He’s had a pretty dang good year.

Richard Petty said on his YouTube channel.

The Hall of Famer highlighted how significant is to win 60 races of more in the 21st century. Only three more drivers that started racing in the Cup after 2000s have done it, Jimmie Johnson (83), Kyle Busch (63) and Kevin Harvick (60). With the team Hamlin has and the form he is in, the TRD driver can finally win a championship the like the three drivers in the elite list as him.

I mean, you win 60 races nowadays, that’s a bunch of races. So, his team and him, the whole situation, this is probably his best chance he’s ever had to have a chance at the championship.

Richard Petty added.

In the same conversation eight times Cup championship winning crew chief Dale Inman, responding to ‘The King’, shared his thoughts on the JGR driver. He believes there is other driver that can be compared to the veteran and declared that the 23XI Racing co-owner is as capable to produce a championship worthy run.

I guess the only one you could kind of compare Denny to is Denny Hamlin himself. Because when it’s time to stand up, he stands up. And there’s still three that’s capable of doing that, but he does it as good or better than anybody.

Dale Inman said.

Denny Hamlin seems to agree with Richard Petty as 2025 might be his last best chance

He pointed out that 2025 might be his last genuine shot at winning the championship. His current contract with JGR, that he recently extended, will end in 2027. Hamlin has already admitted that there won’t be another contract extension for him, and he is in the last chapter of his racing career.

Is this my last chance to do it? Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. I just know I’m going to do the work, and I hope it works out. If it doesn’t, I’m going to be OK with it. I’ve had a season that far exceeded what I thought it would.

Denny Hamlin asserted.

The comments from the veteran racer shows he is more motivated than he has ever been to win the 2025 championship, ending his desperate chase that started back on his debut. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the start driver in the coming three races of the season.
