The NASCAR community was shocked when it was announced that John Hunter Nemechek will be replaced by Josh Berry at Legacy Motor Club from the 2027 season. It was an unexpected decision considering the team announced a contract extension for the driver at the start of the season.

Minority owner of the team Richard Petty talked about the decision on his Petty Race Recap podcast. He expects the decision to be part of LMC moving forward towards better and with Berry they are getting a driver that will push the other two, Erik Jones and Riley Herbst, beyond the limit to succeed.

Well, we’re going to find out. You know what I mean? I think for Legacy to move forward, we’re going to have to start getting the drivers in there that can be competitive and can race with each other to make each other better.

Richard Petty said on his podcast.

The seven times champion admitted that at the moment with John Huner Nemechek, they don’t have the driver that pushes his teammates to be better. Richard Petty believes that the signing of Josh Berry and new signing for the third car Riley Herbst will make them better.

Right now we’ve not got that. And hopefully, with bringing on the third car, then we’re going to have competition within our team. And that’s going to make each car better and each driver better.

NASCAR legend and co-host of the show, Dale Inman, also shared his thoughts about the change. He completely backed Petty’s assessment and shared his hopes of better days ahead with the top of the game racer Berry in their garage.

Yeah, I’ll go along with what Richard said on that. And Josh Berry should be a plus. I hope they communicate good to each other and make both of them better. And I think they will. Right now, Josh Berry is on top of his game for sure.

Dale Inman asserted.

Jimmie Johnson admits it was a tough decision for LMC to replace John Hunter Nemechek

Despite the form being a tough reality, it was not easy for LMC to replace Nemechek, considering they have built a very close relationship. Jimmie Johnson talked about it to Dale Earnhardt Jr. and admitted that its tough call and the maturity the racer is going to brining to the table made a massive difference.

The way we operate and how close we all are as a team. You know, not an easy decision with John Hunter, but we are where we are now, and where Josh can bring in a lot of experience in building maturity, know-how, these things that a 35-year-old can bring; it’s just different.

Jimmie Johnson said.

The comments from the veteran racer are on point and shows how they are ready to make tough calls to achieve the ultimate goal of winning races as well as championships. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to pan out for JHN and LMC in the coming years.
