Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch came into Sonoma expecting a really good outing that would help him to continue the positive surge In performance the team has been experiencing in the last few races. He had a fine start to the Toyota Save Mart 350 and was close to finishing inside the top-5 before Ross Chastain came into the picture.
The No:1 Chevy of Ross Chastain attempted to pass the No:8 Chevy of Kyle Busch on 4A in the final lap of the 110-lap race. It didn’t go as planned as his attempt to not hit the veteran resulted in his tiers getting locked up and him spinning Busch out. This resulted in the two times Cup champion being dropped down to a P12 while the Trackhouse driver kept his top-5.
While talking about the incident after the race, Chastain insisted that he wasn’t trying to run into the veteran at Sonoma and it was just an incident caused b circumstances. He also highlighted that he also experienced the same when Hendrick Motorsports’ No:9 Chevy of Chase Elliott moved him for a P4 finish.
I’m pretty confused about most things here, but he checked up down into 4A. I popped out to not hit him, and then I locked up, going in there, into his right. So definitely not trying to run into him, and then get run into by the No. 9 for a spot in 11. So, a lot of bowties running together today. Glad one of them got the win.Ross Chastain told Alex Weaver.
Ross Chastain rejoices his good and fun outing at Sonoma
Before giving the Busch verdict., Chastain pointed out that he had fun in the 110-lap race, especially in first lap and the last two laps. He is happy that he is now finally getting back to speed and is passing cars on the track.
I feel like the first or second lap of the race, and the last lap, were the most exciting, and the rest were just making lap times, aside from some restarts. It just feels so good to be back passing cars, and being fast, and being able to be aggressive and maintaining speed doing it.Ross Chastain said.
The 2024 season so far hasn’t been great for the No:1 team as the P5 at Sonoma is his first top-5 finish in the last 13 races. His effort often ended in top-15 runs this season. So he would be hoping that Sunday’s result would help him to turn the season around.
