Coming into this weekend’s race at Daytona Ross Chastain had to expectations, maximize the pace of his Trackhosue Chevy and hope a new racer won’t come out of Coke Zero Sugar 400. Unfortunately, he got the opposite result, as he was able to secure just a P12 finish, while Harrison Burton pulled of a surprising win.
Ross Chastain is now P18 in the championship table had has very low chance to make it into the last-16 on points. The best short he has is to win the Southern 500, with the likes of Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch and 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace being his most prominent rivals in the playoff bubble.
While talking about current situation after the race at Daytona, Ross Chastain was very upbeat. He asserted that he is excited to have another chance to win the Southern 500 and believes he does have a good chance to make it to the playoff even on points. Chastain isn’t letting any negativity affect him and is setting himself for success.
I look at it like we have another chance to go win the Southern 500. That’s what I’m focused on this week. The points, they give them out at the stages and end of the race. If you run good, they give you a lot of them. I just get excited for a chance to go win the Southern 500.Ross Chastain said via NBC Sports.
Ross Chastain was fortunate to finish the race
The No:1 Trackhouse Racing Chevy driver had survived multiple chaotic moments to secure his P12 finish. He was collected in the Noah Gragson wreck in the second stage of the race and had to work hard get back on the top-15 and salvage enough points.

Yeah, it’s pretty incredible that we were even able to finish. I thought the radiator was going to be gone. We’re fortunate to finish, but yeah, as I’m riding around – mainly in Stage Two when I dropped back from the pack and was going to be the free pass, I thought through all of it then. And then the whole final stage, it was all about trying to execute and maximize what we could.

Trackhouse would do everything they possibly can next week to make sure Ross Chastain would have shot at victory next week. It would be interesting to see how the regular season finale playout for the drivers in the playoff bubble.
