The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday at Las Vegas witnessed an animated confrontation between former teammates Daniel Suarez and Ross Chastain. The Spire Motorsports driver confronted his ex-Trackhouse Racing teammate soon after the race owing to their contacts on stage two and another incident with four laps left in the race.
The No:1 driver shoved the No:7 racer, as the conversation got heated and allegedly made some negative comments. The latter didn’t like those, and called the Florida born racer tow faced and, in a video, released on his YouTube channel admitted he lost all respect for his ex-teammate. Justin Marks’ driver has finally spoke out on the incident, admitting he regrets his actions and words.
Yeah, in the moment I definitely was hot and angry and would do things differently if I had time to think about it. Yeah, definitely would not have swerved into him after the race. I didn’t mean to. I would do that different if I could go back. And then I wouldn’t shove him, for sure.
Ross Chastain finally spoke up on the incident.

But that doesn’t mean Ross Chastain is taking all the heat for the incident. He pointed out that at that moment; he didn’t want the confrontation or continue to talk with the Mexican American. The racer was furious with the fact that Daniel Suarez wasn’t taking accountability for his own actions that lead to the incident.
I was over the conversation that he was trying to have, wanted him to leave, asked him to leave and he didn’t leave. Wanted him to back up. Was too close and just didn’t want to hear anything else he was saying because he wasn’t taking any accountability and I wanted him to.
Ross Chastain added.
Ross Chastain admits his reaction was worse at the moment
In the same conversation, the veteran talked about his relationship with Suarez, which the latter post-race called weird. He highlighted how the Spire driver didn’t take enough accountability but admitted that how he responded to it at the moments was worse.

I’ve known Daniel now for a long time and have lived it inside of our four walls, that there’s, in my opinion, not enough accountability, and there wasn’t post-race. And in the heat of the moment, I reacted definitely worse…
Ross Chastain said.
Furthermore, he asserted that he could have avoided the heated moment, if there was some time for him calm down when he exited the car. But still he doesn’t think that’s is a good justification thing to what he said to his former teammate.
And if I had just a few minutes to calm down getting out of the car, definitely a day of struggling through the mid-teens when we expected more out of the 1 car causes me to not have as much, I guess, wick to be able to burn. Unfair in the grand scheme of things to react that way and not right.
Ross Chastain added.
In the same conversation later, the racer admitted that he doesn’t think they will continue beefing in the coming days, as the Spire cars so far have been better in the 2026 season. It would be interesting to see how the reminder of the season is going to playout for the duo.
