The NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega has always featured some of the biggest wrecks in the history of the sport. This Sunday’s Yellawood 500 was no different as it featured multiple wrecks, that ruined races for almost everyone in the event. The second biggest wreck of the day occurred towards the end of the second stage, and it had some wild moments.
Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman gave a little too much push to the defending champion Ryan Blaney. This resulted in the Ford driver spinning out and collecting multiple cars in the process. Blaney’s Team Penske Racing teammate and two times Cup champion Joey Logano was one of the victims, alongside Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain.

The Trackhouse Racing driver, who secured his maiden win of the 2024 season last week at Kansas, came into the race with a lot of hopes and confidence. But his day was ruined by the wreck, which caused him to make contact with the wall. The damage from the contact caused his car to catch on fore.
The NASCAR safety crew quickly rushed to the scene and wasted no time to get the driver out of the car, before trying to put out the fire. It would have been a much ugly incident if swift actions weren’t taken. All three drivers involved in the incident wasn’t able to get back to race and ended up outside the top 30, with Chastain finishing dead last.
Ross Chastain recalls the race ruining incident
In his post-race interview Ross Chastain explained what actually went wrong for him in the trioval. He pointed out that he doesn’t really know what happened, as he was shucked up by somebody amidst the chaos. It just bad luck and being in the wrong place at the wrong time that cost Chastain the race.
The Chevy driver though doesn’t have much to be sad about, considering he isn’t in the championship chase like the two Penske driver that wrecked out with him. Chastain will be hoping that the wreck will not ruin his momentum as he is looking to play post-season spoiler again in the coming races.
