Rusty Wallace is an American former stock racing car driver. Before Wallace joined the NASCAR circuit, he won over 200 short-track races and the American Speed Association Championship. Wallace drove the No.16 Chevrolet for Roger Penske. He continued as a part-time driver for 3 years. His full-time Cup Series debut came in 1984 with the No.88 Pontiac for Cliff Stewart.

Wallace finished 14th in the final standings and bagged the Rookie of the Year award. He switched to Blue Max Racing in 1986 and won his first few races. He continued with the Raymond Beadle-backed team until the end of his contract in 1990. Wallace won the 1989 Cup Series Championship in a highly controversial fashion, by spinning out Darrel Waltrip on the final lap.

The Missouri native moved to Penske in 1991 and would see the rest of his career with the same team he made his debut for. Wallace’s stint at Penske was outstanding; he scored consistent wins but could never replicate his championship success from 1989. In 2005, Wallace retired from competing full-time in the Cup Series and, instead, switched his focus to Broadcasting. He has covered auto racing events for ESPN and ABC since 2006.
