The 2024 NASCAR Cup season returned after the two weeks extended Olympics breaks with Austin Dillon wrecking Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin to win the race. NASCAR penalized him hard for the antics by, striping him of his automatic playoff berth while also giving him point penalty. His spotter was also suspended for three races.

The defending NASCAR Cup champion Ryan Blaney recently talked about the incident that denied his teammate a race win. He pointed out that he would never intentionally wreck someone to win the championship. Blaney admitted that spinning out Joey Logano can be justified to a limit, but right hooking Denny Hamlin went beyond the limit.

No. I would never do that, like, intentionally. Like, yeah, all right, you get into a guy. Maybe you don’t mean to spin him out, but, you know, then you hook a guy again, another guy, because you missed the corner so bad to get to a guy. So, I would like to say I wouldn’t do something like that.
Ryan Blaney said via Happy Hour Podcast.

He pointed out that Austin Dillon got beat in the restart fair and square and pointed out that losing races because of cautions and subsequent restart is pretty common in motorsports and it isn’t something to be pissed off about. Blaney reckons the Chevy driver should gave accepted his fate and moved on.

I mean, you got beat on the restart, you know. I mean, fair and square. Yeah, you were going to win the race before the last caution, but this is motorsports, and unpredictable things happen, and you have to, you know, kind of go with what’s given to you, and he got beat.

Ryan Blaney explains what Austin Dillon could have done at the moment

The Penske driver pointed out that the No:3 RCR racer should have tried to bang doors with the No:22 or running him up the track on the first two turns, if he wanted to get the win the right way. But instead, he went over the limit on the final corner.

You know, he got — Joey drove around him on the top right away and got away from him, and you know, you had your chance to win it fair and square there on the restart. You know, you run maybe, if you run Joey up and Turn 1 and 2 on the restart, that’s one thing, right? You kind of bang doors, whatever, go on your way. But then, I feel like that was just kind of a step further.
Ryan Blaney said.

The defending champion is persistent that regardless of the situation, blatant wrecks aren’t something that can be justified. His opinion is shared by most drivers in the current grid regrading drama over the Dillon drama.
