The 2023 NASCAR Cup champion Ryan Blaney started his championship chase last season with an impressive performance in the Talladega playoff race. He had similar expectation coming into the 2024 Yellawood 500 race on Sunday. But his hopes were shattered as he got caught up in a big wreck and ended at P39.

On the end of the second stage of the race, which saw just a single caution till, Ryan Blaney got too much push from Alex Bowman sending him spinning to the inside wall. His car collected the likes of Ross Chastain and Joey Logano. The damage to his car was too significant for his No:12 crew to fix on time.

The Ford driver was furious with the Hendrick Motorsports championship contender for ruining his chances. He pointed out that Bowman just wrecked him and cost him a solid stage finish, asserting the move from the No:48 Chevy makes no sense. Bowman made they move on Blaney despite knowing that it isn’t good to run someone wide open in the trioval.

We were probably still going to run fifth or sixth (in the stage), and then (Bowman) just drove straight through me in the trioval. He just wrecked the f**k out of me. I don’t know what he’s thinking … I thought he would have more sense than that, but obviously he didn’t. You can’t just run wide open through somebody in the trioval, but he did.

Ryan Blaney told NBC Sports.

Ryan Blaney was wrecked in the worst possible spot

While earlier talking about the point, Blaney pointed out that the wreck came in the worst spot possible, and the Ford driver was pretty dump to pull off such a move. Blaney seems more furious than ever with his rival over the wreck.

I don’t know if (Bowman) ever lifted. (He) just drilled me from like three car lengths back. The worst possible spot you could do it, so it’s pretty dumb on his part and it figures that he gets away scot-free per usual. That’s the end of the day. We’ll just see where we are at the end of the race on points and go from there.

Ryan Blaney said.

The wreck has made Blaney drop in the playoff table as he is now just 25 up from the cutoff line going into Roval, which is another wild card race. He has to be on top of his game to secure his spot in the very next-round and it will be interesting to see how he will perform in the upcoming two post-season races.
