The 2025 NASCAR Cup season got kickstarted with the unofficial season opener, The Clash, at Bowman Gray Stadium, marking the first top-tier stock car race at the track in over five decades. Hendrick Motorsports’ 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott won the race, marking a strong start to the new season.
The No:9 Chevy driver faced a strong fight from Team Penske Racing’s Ryan Blaney and Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin. The former came close to overtaking Chase Elliott late in the race, with them having a pretty evenly matched race. But he wasn’t as fast as he expected owing to his right rear tire don’t have enough left.
The 2023 Cup Series champion further explained that the only way he could get upfront was bulldogging into him, but he wasn’t ready to do that. He joked that he would have got chase out of the track by pitchfork if it happened. This made his teammate Joey Logano, who was beside him during the media session, to laugh out loud.
Ryan Blaney hopes the fans enjoyed the race
In his post-race interview, Ryan Blaney shared his feelings about the entertainment Winsten-Salem race fans got on Sunday. He is hoping that the fans enjoyed the race just like he did and asserted that he is happy about making sure the fans left the track entertained.
The comments from Ryan Blaney seems to be something that many drivers in the garage shares after the race at the quarter-mile track. It would be interesting to see if the 2025 race would inspire NASCAR to return to the track with The Clash or a point race in the future.
