The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway lasts Sunday witnessed a wild moment involving ex-teammates Ross Chastain and Daniel Saurez. The latter went to confront the former over on track incident and with the frustration boiling over, the Trackhouse Racing driver shoved the Spire Motorsports driver.
Shane van Gisbergen, who was teammate of the duo last season, shared his thoughts on the incident ahead of this weekend race at Darlington. He admitted that how it is unacceptable that two former friends get into a almost a big fight publicly during the race week and shared his hope that the clash will never happen again.
If you fought at home you’d be banned for at least a year. It’s not acceptable. I don’t know if it should be acceptable here too, either. I don’t really know and thankfully haven’t been put in that situation. But certainly weird watching two friends have an argument, almost get into it last week. Hopefully that doesn’t happen to me.

Further talking about the point, Shane van Gisbergen shared his thoughts on the Daniel Suarez and how the Mexican American is in position where he has to prove himself after getting axed by Trackhouse. This makes him more susceptible to getting frustrated, and that might have led to the Ross Chastain drama.
Yeah, like I understand what he’s going through, I guess, and the point he has to prove. I try and see it through his eyes, as well. He’s having a decent crack and easy to get frustrated in those points. But I try to race him equally like everyone else. Yeah, it’s funny how it’s gotten to shoving match with all of us, but it is what it is.

Christopher Bell reveals major hindrance to Shane van Gisbergen’s NASCAR progress
Ahead of this weekends race, Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Christopher Bell shared his thoughts on the one key factor that is limiting Shane van Gisbergen oval racing progress, hindering him from performing on the same level as road courses. The Kiwi has the skill-set to thrive, but lacks enough experience.

He clearly has the skillset and is a top-level talent, and I think if you give him enough experience, he’s going to figure out whatever type of racing he wants to figure out.
Chrsitopher Bell said.
If he had started racing in NASCAR the time when there were hours of practice session unlike the 20-minsuits sessions of the current era. With enough time the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran believes the Trackhouse driver will get over the handicap in the coming days, with enough experience.
Fortunately for his competitors, and unfortunately for him, the format handicaps him tremendously. If he would have done this years ago when we had hours of practice and multiple sets of tyres for practice, I think he would have been a lot further along.
Chrsitopher Bell added.
The comments from the TRD driver are on point, as the three times Supercars champion is capable of giving the majority of the NASCAR drivers a run for their money. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming years.
