‘That was completely on me’ Chase Elliot takes the fall for what happened with Kyle Busch during the race on COTA

Chase Elliot and Kyle Busch

Chase Elliot who drives the No.9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports has had yet another decent finish during this years’ race at the Circuit of The Americas, the first road course for this season. Chase Elliot is pretty well-known when it comes to road courses.

The young brat from Georgia has an impressive number of wins when it comes to road courses. Out of his 13 career wins, 7 wins came at road courses with one being at COTA in 2021. He started in P8 and pushed himself to emerge victorious on COTA. Despite finishing with a P4, Chase now tops the Cup Series table standings with Ryan Blaney behind him.

Chase Elliot was all set to defend his title at COTA but unfortunately, it wasn’t his day today as he ended up getting mixed with Kyle Busch but still managed to finish at P4 which isn’t that bad compared to his previous races.

“I got crossed up in the braking zone and hit him,” says Chase Elliot after bumping into Kyle Busch.

Chase Elliot was pushing himself hard to defend his title at the Circuit of The Americas but he eventually ended up taking Kyle Busch for a spin. He stated that he really didn’t have to do anything as it was all wrecked and it was pretty open for him which he took and got a free couple of positions and he was happy to take it.

“Yeah, I didn’t really have to do anything. They just kind of wrecked and they were out of the way so I am just kind of ran it on the road and I got a free couple of positions, so I will take it,” stated Chase Elliot.

But he hit No.18, Kyle Busch, during the initial moments of the race taking him for a spin-off the track for which Chase completely took the blame saying that he got crossed up in the braking zone and hit him. He added saying that they were racing for last and not even for stage points and that Kyle Busch knew better than himself, but concluded by saying that what he did to Kyle was completely on him.

“I messed up earlier in the race (in contact with Kyle Busch). I got crossed up in the braking zone and hit him. Obviously, we were racing for last and probably weren’t even racing for stage points and I think he knows me better than that. But yeah, that was completely on me,” concluded Chase Elliot.

Chase Elliot is the only driver for HMC without a win this season and will we see this change anytime soon?
