Joe Gibbs Racing missed out on the opportunity to make history last Sunday at North Wilkesboro. They could’ve swept the podium, if not for Joey Logano crashing the party, producing a dominant run to win the race while Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe and Ty Gibbs finished behind him in the respective order.

On the last laps, JGR cars had the pace advantage, but it wasn’t enough to get the best out of the three times cup champion who had the race lead. No:54 Camry drivers Gibbs was really disappointed with the result and shared it with the media post-race. He admitted being angry at himself for not taking advantage of their pace.

You know, we had such a great car. I really appreciate my team and the car they gave me. Just so unfortunate… The lights just are such a pain in the ass here. And I just really want to go, honestly, in this SiriusXM 54 car and rip the dash out of it and punch myself.

Ty Gibbs said post-race.

Further talking about the frustrating result, Ty Gibbs pointed out that the lights were a major hinderance for him throughout the race. At the end of the day, if they had executed a little better on the track like the No:22 Team Peske Racing crew of Joey Logano, the trophy could’ve been theirs to take home.

Because I feel like … I don’t know… It’s just frustrating. Just got in a squirrelly spot with the lights. We’ll just keep going. But I really appreciate my team. Thank you, Monster. Thank you, SiriusXM, for coming.

Later in the sperate conversation, the former second division champion talked about how much fun he had the whole day and admitted that if he was able to get close to his teammates Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe on the laps, things could’ve been different. Regardless it was solid point-paying day he can be proud of going into Indy.

I had so much fun tonight. So, I wish I could’ve gotten up there and raced with my teammates and those guys. It’s been fun. I think we put on a great show. Hopefully everybody enjoyed. But maybe if we’re up there, everybody would’ve enjoyed it a lot more.

Ty Gibbs asserted.

I think we’re easily a championship contender, honestly. I’m very happy about that and just got to stick to it and got to keep working hard. We’ve not really had any bad weekends; we just got wrecked out a bunch by some guys and myself, and then we still are in the position we’re in.

Going into the next weeks’ Brickyard 400, where Bubba Wallace’s Toyota won last year, with momentum on his side; Gibbs will be hoping to secure his second win of the season. It would be interesting to see if they can pull it off against the seasoned veterans,
