Tyler Reddick at COTA
Richard Childress Racing driver Tyler Reddick’s run of unlucky runs in the NASCAR Cup series Continued in COTA as the No:8 driver saw yet another victory slip right before his eyes once again. Though he has only led only two laps in COTA, the 26-year-old was ever-present in the leading pack throughout the race.
In the final restart with just 12 laps left to race, he started with great pace taking the lead to himself with Ross Chastain, Chase Briscoe, A.J. Allmendinger all hot on his tails but the joy was short-lived as a turn 1 mistake gave eventual winner Chastain the chance to power by through the esses, which he took with both hands.
Tyler Reddick fell down the finishing order to 5th as Alex Bowman, Christopher Bell and Chase Elliot took the top 4 finishes to themself respectively behind the winner Chastain. Now Reddick has come forth explaining how he missed out on a potential win at Circuit of The Americas.
Find out Tyler Reddick said.
Tyler Reddick acknowledged that having been on the losing side all day long made him susceptible to aggressive driving which promoted the turn 1 mistake of giving away the position to Chastain.
“I just didn’t get a good launch off Turn 1 and just almost had the 1 car cleared but didn’t quit. We were really on the loose side all day long, and that makes us pretty susceptible to getting aggressive at the end. So, was just easy to get moved around there, and that was kind of a problem I had all day,” Tyler Reddick said.
Tyler Reddick went on to explain that his car was out of the track just due to a small pressure from the back and missed out its way in the subsequent traffic. He added that the team will learn from it and will be hitting the simulator to get back to the best for the next race.
“Just a little bit of pressure I had from anybody, and the back of this car was out of the track. It could get through the esses pretty good and could do a lot of things really well, but we just missed it in a little way where if we had to battle other cars in traffic,” says Tyler Reddick.
“It was really easy hard to get the good launch off the corner and complete a pass or really battle hard. So, it was tough, but we’ll learn from it and go back to the simulator and go back to work,” Tyler Reddick added.
