NASCAR Playoffs have begun. The stock car series kickstarted the 10-race shootout at Darlington with the iconic Southern 500. It was JGR’s Chase Briscoe who dominated the race to clinch victory. The Toyota driver had a wholesome celebration with his son Brooks to mark the occasion.

Briscoe was always one of the favorites for the Southern 500. The No. 19 driver won the Darlington race last year, as it is a track he is fond of. However, no one expected Chase Briscoe to utterly dominate the race this time around. The JGR star managed to lead 309 laps on Sunday, the third highest in the history of the Darlington race in the Cup Series.

It is thus no surprise that Briscoe wanted a special celebration when he made his way to Victory Lane, and what’s better than sharing the stage with his son. Brooks came to his father to congratulate him over the victory. Chase Briscoe was ecstatic to see Brooks and held him up in his arms. Together, the father-son duo pointed to the fans, recognizing the achievement.

That’s not all. Chase Briscoe even made Brooks stand on the top of his No. 19 Toyota. Brooks Briscoe, seemingly a nature in such a situation, raised his finger above his head, marking that his father was the number 1 driver that night. The celebration made the crowd go crazy as fans cheered for the young boy. This was undoubtedly one of the most special moments of the entire season and a perfect way to start the Playoffs.

Chase Briscoe labels Darlington ‘favorite’ race in NASCAR

On the surface, leading 309 laps before winning the race might make it seem that Chase Briscoe was on an easy Sunday drive. However, that was far from the case. The JGR driver had to fend off threats from his rivals, particularly at the ending stages of the Southern 500.

Tyler Reddick and Erik Jones made things difficult for Briscoe, yet he managed to keep things in one piece. On the final lap, Reddick even went for a last-minute lunge but to no avail. After the race, Briscoe admitted that the situation became much harder than it needed to be. Nevertheless, the Toyota driver was over the moon to make his way to Victory Lane.

Chase Briscoe asserted that the Southern 500 was his favorite race in all of NASCAR as he clinched it for a second time in a row. Though, big stars like Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell suffered from pit road issues that hampered their chances of fighting at the front. This in-turn made things just a little bit easier for Briscoe.

That was way harder than it needed to be. So cool to win two Southern 500s in a row. This is my favorite race of the year.

Chase Briscoe said post-race.

The win in Darlington will serve as a major boost for Chase Briscoe and JGR. However, the story is far from over. The No. 19 driver could not have hoped for a better start to the Playoffs, but now it’s important that he keeps this momentum. While he has secured his spot in the next round, the rest of the 15 Playoff drivers will only push harder at World Wide Technology Speedway next weekend.
