The NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday witnessed the 2020 champion Chase Elliott putting an end to his 42-race winless streak that started last year at Talladega. He survived multiple incident that happened around him with his composed driving and it was enough to put him in the lead in over time to score the win.
Chase Elliott didn’t take the checkered to win, instead his victory came under the caution. On the second over time re-start, the No:9 Chevy lined up with the No:1 Chevy of Ross Chastain upfront on the on the re-start. They had the strong battle for the lead and on the last corner of the first lap Elliott took lead.

The HMS driver had enough momentum to built a gap between him and Chastain while taking the white flag. Behind the duo, Willaim Byron who so far has been fighting Brad Keselowski for P3 overtook the 2012 champion. The No:24 Chevy proceeded to try an overtake on Chastain and it went badly.

Byron bumped Chastain’s bumper, which resulted in the Trackhosue car losing control and crashing into the outside wall. NASCAR immediately called caution and Elliott was awarded the win. Initially the No:24 was given the P2 place, but it was later changed as after revieing the finish, it was found the that No:6 Ford of Keselowski was at P2 when the yellow was waved.
William Byron was apologetic over the Ross Chastain crash
After getting released from the infield care canter Ross Chastain politely refused answer the media over what happened in the also lap. Byron did talk to them about what went down and why he collided with Chastain.

He admitted that it was an unfortunate incident and asserted it wasn’t intentional. He had a strong run after the white flag was waved and was hoping that the momentum was enough for him to overtake Chastain, but things didn’t go the way he expected.
I was there, and I had a run; it’s the last lap. I don’t want to do that to [Chastain], but unfortunately, we came together there.William Byron said.
While both Byron and Elliott has now secured playoff spots by winning races, Chastain is still looking for his first triumph of 2024. He would be hoping get that done this coming week at Talladega where he has won a race in 2022.
